Hi Graybo,

Is it for sure going to come this far? I'm in Florida.

Can you tell me how Iodine helps with radiation exposure? I'm not very adept at science...

I feel so bad for all the people over there and all their family and friends over here that are worried for them.

I cannot even begin to imagine the horrible times they're having to endure with no end in sight.

I live within 20 miles of the Millstone Nuclear Power Plant in Waterford CT and they do give all the residents of the towns within those miles Iodine pills to keep just in case there ever was a problem. So they do hand them out in the US. We have drills and a booklets on what to do and which way to travel if they tell you to evacuate. I would think the other nuclear power plants in the US would also. I worked there for a short time many years ago and I think they also did back then. You can also request them for free if you need more for others that maybe in your home or if you miss placed them.

My thyroid was removed 8 months ago, so Iodine wouldn't do me any good. Is it thyroid cancer that it's supposed to prevent, or other cancers as well?

Mary,
I am pretty sure it is just to help prevent thyroid cancer.

Too late for me; been there, done that. My thyroid was removed due to thyroid cancer. Opened Pandora's Box...

Does anybody know how Iodine protects against thyroid cancer? I know your thyroid needs iodine to make thyroid hormones, but I don't know much else about it.
