Scheduled for intrathecal bacLofen pump trial for SM

Postby gncrzy3 » Tue Sep 18, 2012 8:58 pm

I am excited and extremely nervous about this trial.
If it shows any improvement in my spasticity, then they
Are going to implant the intrathecal bacLofen pump. I am
Excited at the possibility of less pain and possibility of
Being able to over come some obstacles I now face,
But also stressed over the possible complications. Any advice?
Also if you have had this done I would LOVE to hear from

You!!!

I will definitely post, bacLofen didn't work for me
And made me do nothing but sleep, so then changed me
To Valium 3 times a day ) for spasticity .. They said it is
A very small dose that goes directly into the spinal fluid, where it
Needs to be and that it can help get me off some of my
Multitude of meds, I take 80 mg morphine 2 times a day And they
Are hoping to get me at least down if not off of it. As long as
The trial shows any signs of success .. They will do the surgery,
If it does nothing then I will have to have another trial with
A higher does. The doctor told me they have A GREAT success
Rate with the trials as they have a good screening progress,
And pretty much won't even try it if they are not almost
Certain it will work. I am hoping it goes well, and then
Hopefully I can pass along good news to my fellow SM family ( board
Members) and that they will be able to check it out and then
Be able to have the same Sucsess! It also gives me
Hope for my 2 children in the future who also have sm

Thank you both for your replies.. I am nervous and excited
And just need to vent. In the back of my mind I keep
Hoping that it may also be a viable option for my 2 kids
With sm, and to all of those who are suffering and feel hopeless.
I would love to report that it's the best thing I eve did and
Give some hope to all my fellow sm brothers and sisters.
It's always nice to be able to give good news and hope!
