In addition to their mission of providing free airline transportation for a child who must travel out-of-state for specialized medical care, They are expanding their scope of services by providing travel for children and their parents to attend medical conferences so they may learn more about a new diagnosis, or to obtain knowledge about treatment options and additional resources to assist in their child’s care. Miracle Flight will provide round-trip commercial airline transportation for the child and one, or both parents, as long as the family qualifies financially, as they assist economically disadvantaged families. They do require that the child have a scheduled medical treatment/consultation appointment with an M.D. at some time during the conference duration, which must be documented by that physician.
If a family would like to apply for free flights to attend the 2014 ASAP’s Chiari and Syringomyelia Conference on July 23-26, 2014, please refer them to our website, www.miracleflights.org, and advise them to click the link on the Home Page that says “Request a Flight”. They will be directed to the page where there are links to documents that must be downloaded, completed, and faxed to us. Please note, that in order for Miracle Flights to be able to provide travel arrangements, the patient must have an established medical appointment with a medical provider in the city of the conference. We ask that all documents be submitted from the family, as well as the required documents from both physicians, at least 10 business days prior to the departure date. However, we should still be able to provide assistance on shorter notice, if necessary, but we ask that applicants provide as much lead time as possible. Please note that no documents may be signed or dated older than 60 days prior to the first scheduled appointment. This provides us with the most lead time possible. We cannot coordinate flights until all required documents are received. If a family is uncertain whether or not they qualify financially, please have them first call our office before completing the documents to ensure eligibility.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions at all.

Some days I feel like I am being torn in a thousand different directions. I would love to be able to post to this blog everyday. To share interesting bits of knowledge, helpful coping techniques or just a laugh. But it never happens. Awe, the best laid plans… Well I will continue to post as often as I can and any who have something to share, please feel free to do so.
Have you ever felt like you were the only person in your area diagnosed with Chiari or syringomyelia? If you have, you are not alone. But the fact is someone living within a few blocks might be thinking the same thing. Syringomyelia and Chiari are being diagnosed more often. Not only in children but also in adults who might have been previously misdiagnosed.
The internet has made it possible for many to find others who share their predicament but how often do you ask a stranger you meet on a social media site, where they live.
Volunteers are stepping up to help raise funds to support ASAP programs and research and at the same time connecting with others in their community. By spreading awareness about the disorders, they are letting the world know we do exist and we are not alone.
Congratulations to the Great Falls, VA Syringo-my-What? Steps Across the States for a great event on Saturday, April 5, 2014. Host Beth Brixius reported 35 attended to spread awareness. Click here to see pictures provided by James Brixius.
If you know you can predict the weather better than your local meteorologist, you’re not alone. However you have probably thought twice before telling others. After all who wants their friends and family or even their doctor thinking they’re crazy or wondering if the pain medication needs adjustments. We’ve heard all our life that people with arthritis can tell you when a storm is coming so why does it seem so unusual that those affected with these disorders can do the same thing. Chiari and syringomyelia is all about pressure right so it only makes sense that changes in the barometric pressure are going to affect you. So the next time you think a storm is coming because of an increase in symptoms, you’re probably right.
Winter is still holding on in some parts of the U.S. but in many areas Spring has arrived. The blue bonnets are in full bloom in Texas. It is time to get out and enjoy the warmer temperatures and sunny days. After a long winter of being trapped indoors, be sure to take it slow and easy. Overdoing is a common problem that will result in an increase of symptoms but with a little (or maybe a lot) of patience, you will again be able to enjoy and benefit from the awaking of a new season.
